Home of the Chlorine Free Pool

almost

Chlorine is one of the most important chemical compounds discovered by humans. It is essential not only for treating our drinking water but also for sanitizing swimming pools worldwide to eliminate harmful bacteria and viruses. However, chlorine has several drawbacks, including the production of toxic compounds, often labeled as “inert,” which are used to stabilize the chlorine itself.

In swimming pools, one such chemical is cyanuric acid. While cyanuric acid helps chlorine remain effective by protecting it from sunlight, having too much can inhibit chlorine’s ability to sanitize the water it is meant to treat.

So, how can we reduce chlorine usage or minimize its side effects while still ensuring the water is safe for swimming and drinking?

UV and OZONE

A form of triple-powered oxygen, ozone is a natural element that produces the fresh, sweet scent you smell after a rainstorm. When it comes to water sanitization, ozone is a proven technology that:

  • Works 3,000 times faster than chlorine and is safer for swimmers.

  • Neutralizes contaminants such as algae, viruses, bacteria, mold, pesticides, toxic chemicals, and bather waste, including sweat, urine, sunscreen, cosmetics, and body oils.

  • Maintains pools at luxury hotels, health spas, and competition pools at the Olympics since 1984.

  • Purifies major brands of bottled water and tap water in many cities worldwide.

  • Keeps water chemistry more stable, requiring less pH adjustment, which reduces skin and eye irritation.

  • Eliminates chlorine-resistant pathogens that cause illnesses such as vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, UTIs, listeriosis, salmonellosis, and Legionnaires' disease.

  • Prevents the formation of biofilm—a sticky layer of bacteria that can grow on pool equipment surfaces.

  • Removes chloramines, the harsh byproducts of chlorine, leading to remarkable water clarity and a more pleasant swimming experience.

Ozone technology achieves unmatched levels of water purity and clarity by effectively destroying organic contaminants and 99.9% of unwanted microorganisms, significantly reducing the amount of chlorine needed.

Best of all, it leaves no toxic byproducts in the pool to harm swimmers, pets, or the environment.

The system also produces an Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP), a safe yet incredibly powerful sanitizing element. While we still require a small residual amount of chlorine (similar to drinking water), this combination allows us to target a chlorine level of just 1 ppm—compared to the traditional 5 ppm needed for safe swimming pool water. That’s an 80% reduction!

but...

We still need chlorine (or another sanitizer—and let’s face it, chlorine is still the best). So, where can we get it if we’re trying to avoid chlorine tablets, liquids, or powders that contain unwanted additives?

Salt chlorine generator

Salt pools often get a bad reputation because the equipment tends to fail every 3 to 4 years (which can be costly), they produce high pH levels (leading to eye and skin irritation), and they cause excess calcium buildup on pool surfaces and tiles (requiring extra tile cleaning). However, when you only need to run the salt system 80% less of the time, most of these issues are eliminated. What’s left is silky-smooth, chemical-free water without any toxic byproducts like cyanuric acid or harmful viruses and bacteria.
